WORLD SCHOLAR'S CUP AT LIGHT INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY
Our learners performed outstandingly in the regional round of World Scholar’s Cup competition held on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th February 2023. Light International Academy and Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) co-hosted the event for Junior (super Junior and Junior) and senior categories. The world scholar’s theme this year is "reconstructing the past".
All the 57 learners from our school qualified for the second round of the world scholar’s
cup. Jabali Omollo emerged the best student overall in social studies while Robyn Lulu Taabu won 8 gold medals. The second round of the competition will be hosted this year
in Doha, Qatar; London, UK; and Seoul, South Korea. More details shall be shared.
One thousand five hundred (1,500) students drawn from approximately a total of 50
schools in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda took part in this year’s world scholar’s cup in the junior category (12-14 years). The participants were grouped into 500 teams consisting of 3 members each.
Team debates, collaborative writing, scholar’s bowl and scholar’s challenge are some of
the activities the scholars participated in.
The World Scholar’s cup was founded in 2006. It offers global students an opportunity to deepen knowledge in numerous areas beyond academics, develop soft skills such as communication and critical thinking as well as boost their confidence. Read more here
